Summary

A merciless wilderness。 A harrowing attack。 A desperate escape。

When a tragic accident sidelines Miley's dreams of Olympic gold, she takes a summer job at a mountain guest lodge。

The Frank Church Wilderness is remote, but it’s the perfect place to train and recover。 Local lore about a staffer who died years ago doesn’t scare her。 But it should。

Miley’s plans take a terrifying detour when she’s abducted during a morning run。 Held captive in a desolate off-grid cabin, she’ll have to use her athletic prowess, cunning mind, and courage to survive。 But as the nightmare at the cabin escalates, Miley is forced to form an unlikely alliance and attempt a risky escape。

Can she outwit her captors and survive the wilderness before it’s too late?

Inspired by true events, Gray After Dark is a pulse-pounding psychological thriller with a finale that will leave you breathless。

What a gripping, nail biting terrifying ride! Thoroughly enjoyed that and struggled to put it down。 The fact it was loosely based on a true story just added to the thrill of the read。 Well done to Noelle Ihli for writing another cracking thriller!Thank you to NetGalley for my Arc copy。

Wow what a great story。 Miley is an Olympic biathlete who, after a traumatic event, has taken a Summer job in the forests of Idaho。 What happens from there is a flurry of action, horror, fear and anxiety。 This book had me ‘just reading one more chapter’ well into the night! I loved the way Noelle wrote and the fear and hope you felt for the main character。 I can’t wait to read more of her books。 Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read this advance copy。

Five glowing stars here! Wow wow wow。 What an engaging plot!! I generally enjoy these darker themes so it’s no wonder I picked it up, but wow! I was there for every second of the story! The main character was really relatable even with her being an athlete。 Everything she went through was rough and real。 Kudos to the author for going there! If I was looking at this story critically, I only wish the ending wasn’t so rushed。 I wanted some more of those delirious thoughts during that walk back。Run Five glowing stars here! Get your hands on this book NOW。 It’s a quick paced thriller that could easily be turned into a movie but couldn’t be any better than the movie I watched in my head as I read! This book was inspired by real events and that makes it even crazier!

“By then, I’d be gone。 Either tearing through the forest at a dead run-or just plain dead。”“Bang, bang, bang goes the farmer’s gun…run, rabbit。 Run, rabbit! Run, run, run。”Screw you, Hamish and Fred。 And any other guy that thinks women are “men’s property” and should be “tamed。” The suspense this book had me in was amazing。 The fact that this story is based on true events is mind blowing。 So freaking glad Miley and RAYNA got their happy endings! Would def recommend to go read this book, now。

This book is an absolute masterpiece。 I could probably write a whole novella on how good I think Noelle Ihli is。 This is the third Ihli book I have read as I'm working my way through her list and I'm speechless every time。Survival thrillers are my favorite subgenre of thrillers, and it's exactly for reasons like Gray After Dark。 It's a pulse-pounding, gut-wrenching, heart-breaking story and action that you just cannot put down。 This one was darker than the other ones I've read from Ihli so far, This book is an absolute masterpiece。 I could probably write a whole novella on how good I think Noelle Ihli is。 This is the third Ihli book I have read as I'm working my way through her list and I'm speechless every time。Survival thrillers are my favorite subgenre of thrillers, and it's exactly for reasons like Gray After Dark。 It's a pulse-pounding, gut-wrenching, heart-breaking story and action that you just cannot put down。 This one was darker than the other ones I've read from Ihli so far, but I absolutely loved it more for that。 I kept telling myself, okay, she's not going to do that right? It's not going to go that dark right? But she did。 And it does。 And it's so freaking good I legit can't stop talking about it。She writes such good female characters。 Do they sometimes make bad decisions? For SURE, that's how they get into these predicaments in the first place, but through it all, these are some of the most well-written, strong-willed females I've ever read。 Miley is no different in Gray After Dark, and I found myself continuously impressed on how she just wouldn't give up, even when they tried to take everything from her, and even when they did take everything from her。 I was so dialed in to Miley and her story, I cried when she cried。 I cried when she didnt cry。 The character development as a whole is top tier。 Miley and Brent were very consistent throughout, but some standout characters for me were my sweet baby Wes and Mary。 My heart just ached for them。 Even Hamish had character development, unfortunately。 In the beginning at least, I found myself almost having sympathy for him。 But Fred has three abuse victims, not just two, and I really like the way the book highlighted that so well, but then takes it further from there, until Hamish is almost unrecognizable。 I'll stop myself or I'll be here all day。 Noelle Ihli is an instant buy author for me, the ONLY thriller author I've ever given five stars to (twice!) and has absolutely cemented a place on my favorite authors of all-time list。 Thank you for blessing us with your talent 😌 。。。more

Reading Gray After Dark, felt so much like Noelle W。 Ihli's book Run on Red which I did enjoy。 When reviewing mystery/thriller novels, I try to keep my synopsis as simple as possible to let other readers piece together the clues as they read because that is my favorite thing about reading this genre and why it is my favorite genre。In this book, we meet Miley, who is an Olympic athlete recovering from some emotional and physical injuries while working at a "resort" in the wilderness of Frank Chur Reading Gray After Dark, felt so much like Noelle W。 Ihli's book Run on Red which I did enjoy。 When reviewing mystery/thriller novels, I try to keep my synopsis as simple as possible to let other readers piece together the clues as they read because that is my favorite thing about reading this genre and why it is my favorite genre。In this book, we meet Miley, who is an Olympic athlete recovering from some emotional and physical injuries while working at a "resort" in the wilderness of Frank Church, Idaho。 Given that she competes in the biathlon, what better place could she choose to work so that she can train for the next Olympics? Or is it?Everyone at the "resort" warns her of a young woman who was working there 4 years prior and was attacked by a bear and never found。 Miley is a strong young woman who has overcome such adversity, but she is also incredibly stubborn; pushing away someone who cares very deeply for her and not heeding the warnings given to her, ultimately leading to her abduction。 Will Miley be able to escape her captors?I truly enjoyed this book and now want to do some research into the true story this book was based on (the description is in the author's note at the end) because I am a huge fan of true crime。 I went through a rollercoaster of emotions reading this book and felt like I could relate to the main character; her determination, stubbornness, and wit。 The character development in this book was very well done, and the ending was not rushed, which I greatly appreciate in a thriller novel。 There are some trigger warnings I feel are important: Stockholm Syndrome, violence, murder, animal cruelty, and SA。 That being said, I do recommend grabbing this book as it is a riveting read and very well crafted, despite the difficult subjects that are addressed in this book。I give this book 4 stars, only because the storyline felt all too similar to Run on Red, by the same author。A huge thank you to Dynamite Books for allowing me the opportunity to review an ARC of this book! 。。。more

I used to silently wonder in the beginning of the book why she didn't tell Brent how she felt since she was already in love with him, but by the middle of the book, it all made sense。 Rayna's constant criticism of Miley, which was also addressed in the middle, made me upset as well。 😅 Surely now I can relate because being in the woods for 4 years surely would alter my brain also。 She has flight of ideas, delusion and dissociative identity disordee。 She is also denial。 (lol why am I incorporating psych here)。 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒌 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒏𝒆𝒕𝒈𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆。 𝑶𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒐𝒅𝒂𝒚! 🥳 。。。more

i really enjoyed this thriller! it took me a little bit to get into the story, but the background is essential to understanding the motivation and psychology behind the main character, Miley。 i thought she was very well-written and i was rooting for her! this book gets super tense and i couldn't put it down! if you want a book with a similar stress level to No Exit, i definitely recommend this one。 this book is definitely all thrills, no mystery (except not knowing who is going to survive)。 Noel i really enjoyed this thriller! it took me a little bit to get into the story, but the background is essential to understanding the motivation and psychology behind the main character, Miley。 i thought she was very well-written and i was rooting for her! this book gets super tense and i couldn't put it down! if you want a book with a similar stress level to No Exit, i definitely recommend this one。 this book is definitely all thrills, no mystery (except not knowing who is going to survive)。 Noelle W。 Ihli is quickly becoming a go-to thriller author for me, as this book is tied with Ask for Andrea as my favorite。 she writes characters well while serving up a fast-paced plot。i enjoyed getting Miley's POV, as well as Brent, Miley's friend's POV。 Brent sets out to find Miley in the depths of the forest。 i did feel like some realizations he came to about her disappearance happened a little too quickly/conveniently, but i understand that it's probably not the most entertaining thing to have him meandering around the forest with no direction。 i feel like he could have struggled a little more with figuring out the clues, so to speak。i didn't feel like the villains in this book were caricatures, which is important for me when reading a thriller with a clear antagonist。 they were awful people, and all of the characters felt like they could be real--which may be the scariest thing about the villains in this book。this was a tense book with short chapters that you won't want to put down。 i loved being in Miley's head the most and being with her as she discovers what she needs to do to survive。 this book is very psychological and can be disturbing, especially since this was loosely inspired by a true story, which is so incredibly sad。 i would recommend picking this up if you like:- fast paced books- characters with trauma & secrets- the movie Split- books set in the wilderness- survival thrillersGray After Dark is available now。 thank you to Dynamite Books, Noelle Ihli, and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review! 。。。more
